“Establishing
Professional Contacts”
The UNICEF is my choice resource in an attempt to
establish a professional contact. For
some reason I was unable to see the information for the NAEYC website. The two countries I chose to reach out to are: Brazil and Honduras. When I read the description of what we were
doing for our blogs, the first country that came to mind was Brazil. I have always wanted to go to Brazil. I am pretty sure I will go for my birthday at
the end of this year. I do not know why
I want to go there. It has been a dream
of mine for as long as I can remember. I
travel a lot so there isn't a reason why I have not been already. Maybe this will be the push I need to go over
the edge. I have a special fascination
with Rio de Janeiro. I was surprised to
read that 30% of the population there is under the age of 18 years old. I guess this is why there is such an issuance
regarding the child labor laws. My
second choice is Honduras. My curiosity
with Honduras was peaked when a well-known, singer-writer-actress, was in
Honduras for some “relaxation and healing”.
The artist, Lisa Lopez (aka ‘Left-Eye), was a former member a female R&B
singing group by the name of TLC. Lisa Lopez
died in a car accident while vacationing in Honduras. Until then, I had never heard of anyone
vacationing there. It sparked an
interest to what to know why someone would want to vacation there.
“Expanding
Resources”
I was pretty sure when I saw the list of websites
that we could choose to explore. After I
opened each web address, I began to second guess my original thought choice. My first choice was “Zero To Three: National Center for
Infants, Toddlers, and Families”. I was
quickly drawn to, “The National Black Child Development Institute”. I had never heard of this organization and
thought it might be interesting to review.
After careful thought, I decided to stick with my initial choice, Zero
to Three. Zero to three was introduced
to me via one of my course sessions while at Walden University. One of my cohorts used a resource from Zero
to Three in a group discussion and it made the discussion come alive. I said then that I wanted to keep up with
this website. Life continued to get busy
and I forgot. This opportunity has come
around once again so I am going to take advantage of it. I love the mission statement and how its’
focus is to give babies and toddlers a strong start. I particularly like the resource brochures
and references available to us, as education professionals; and also for our
parents. Zero to Three just seems like a
win, win for me. I have subscribed to
the “Baby to Big Kid” newsletter.
