MY FAMILY CULTURE

If a major catastrophe were to interrupt my social environment and my family were to have to evacuate, relocate to a completely new destination, with a different culture; the three items that I would take with me would be:  my bible, pictures of my son, and my pillow.

My bible would be my means to stay connected with my faith.  Without faith (to me), I would have nothing.  I believe that I would be able to handle anything if I could study and be reminded of God’s mercy and grace through the scriptures in the bible.  Pictures of my son would be a constant reminder of why I would need to find a way to survive any situation.  My son is 8 years old and I am his provider.  When I cannot think of myself, I must think of him.  My pillow is a source of comfort.  I have had this particular pillow since my birth.  I was a premature baby, unexpected to survive.  My grandmother use to carry me around on the pillow in order to protect my body from too many sources of handling.  When I rest my head on the pillow, I experience a sense of peace and relaxation at the end of every difficult day.

If I were only allowed one item upon entering my new adventure, I would keep the picture of my son.  He would be a reminder of God's grace and mercy that I experience from the bible.  A photo of him would also be my sense of peace and relaxation and the end of the day.

The one insight that I have gained through this blog is just how much my son means to me.  He is my EVERYTHING! I need to be cognitive to thank my Lord and Savior everyday for such a miraculous gift.

  1. Hello,

I do not have children yet, but from watching my all of my cousins and friends have children and seeing their perspective on everything change is something to admire! It is amazing that a picture of your son can bring so many wonderful emotions and can help you get through anything. Reading your post made me realize how wonderful and scary it is going to be to have that intense feeling for one person. It is really something amazing and wonderful. I love your post and thank you for sharing it with us this week!
